The band draws inspiration from the treasure trove of Slovenian folk songs, transforming them into a recognizable, contemporary authorial expression – with infectious rhythms, playful energy and a strong stage presence. The year 2026 is a jubilee year for Katalena: the band celebrated 25 years of activity on July 1, and in the spring their tenth album Meja was released on the ZARŠ label. This research comes from the western border area – from Tolmin to Rezija, from Venetian Slovenia to Istria – where cultures meet, separate and connect at the same time. For Katalena, the border is also a symbol: an intimate ordeal, a creative challenge and an entry into the space of the mythological and magical, which is not lacking along the border. Even after two decades, Katalena remains fresh, curious and concert-explosive: serious in purpose but contagiously relaxed in performance.
