Songs of Farewell – An Evening of Funeral Chants

It is the only event of its kind in Slovenia, which, at a time when we are saying goodbye to the deceased, brings to the fore the increasingly disappearing heritage of passing. And although the shadow of death accompanies man, ever since he is aware of his existence, modern society has been closing death behind the walls of hospitals, in homes for the elderly, in hospice houses and mortuary ties - away from home and our lives. In a single generation, we have lost the vigil at the mortuary, the objects of the mortuary rite and the rituals with which the deceased were escorted to the other world. With the disappearance of death stories and funeral heritage, it seems as if it is precisely the song, the most tangible companion of the farewell of the deceased and the last thing that remains of the archaic rite. Funeral songs were sung on the day of the funeral – at the farewell from home, during the carrying of the coffin, and at the cemetery also at the Seventh. On the eve of All Saints' Day, well-known ethnic performers will recall the memory of their own and our loved ones through song and anecdotes. You are warmly invited!
