Shot in the knee

The Society for Domestic Research (DDR), based in Ljubljana, was founded in 2004 by Damijan Kracina (1970), Alenka Pirman (1964) and Jani Pirnat (1974). The Society records, collects, researches and presents domestic (predominantly "Slovenian") phenomena in the cultural, artistic, research and educational fields. Their exhibition and online projects include Divorced Language (2004–), Cabinet (2005–10), Indija.si (2007–). The founders of the DDR are characterized by integration into other formal and informal groups and diverse curatorial practices. 

Aleksandra Saška Gruden (1970) is an academic sculptor and multimedia artist. With her interdisciplinary approach, she has established herself in the Slovenian and international art space. She works with various forms of artistic expression, including sculpture, installation, performance and digital media. She often explores the themes of identity, historical memory and social relations, using different approaches and technologies to create immersive and thought-provoking experiences. She lives and works in Maribor.

Dejan Koban (1979) comes from Jesenice and lives in Ljubljana. He has written more than 20 books of poetry, and his poetic expression is closely intertwined with the performative, musical and visual – in the latter he expands the field of the written and spoken Slovenian word. In doing so, he usually creates interdisciplinary networks and/or (non)institutional opportunities for simultaneous presentations of colleagues and advocates shared authorship. Among other things, he is associated with the music collective nevnevem, the art cooperative Ignor, the slam cup We Are Here. He also creates with more radical approaches, such as tattooing the body with quotes from poetry (the performance pre_več has been running for several years) and printing with his own blood (the performance Polivinyl). Art and living are inseparable for him.

Lela B. Njatin (1963) lives in Ljubljana and maintains her studio in Kočevje. She creates in the stream of artistic avant-gardes. Part of her visual oeuvre so far is based on the Slovenian word, which is so integrated into conceptual designs and visual performances that her works are transferable to other cultural environments exclusively with the addition of translation or explanation that bridges cultural differences. However, the focus of her thinking is not the Slovenian word, but the community-integrative power of art. In 2016, she received the Award of the Municipality of Kočevje Girl with a Whistle, and in 2025 the DLUL Ivan Kobilc Award for current production.

Arjan Pregl (1973) holds a master's degree in painting and graphics from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. He completed part of his postgraduate studies at the IUP Indiana University of Pennsylvania (USA). He is engaged in painting, graphics, illustration, writing and pedagogical work (ALUO Ljubljana, FEM Maribor and AU Nova Gorica). In his work, he responds to everyday socio-political events at home and abroad, often in a humorous and ironic way. Among the awards he has received is the Hinko Smrekar Award (2014). He lives and works in Ljubljana.  

Leon Zuodar (1977) graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. In 2005, together with Miho Pernet, he founded the painting tandem White Ice Cream and the publishing house of the same name, which is enthusiastic about different, marginal and experimental drawing. In 2011, they received an award from the OHO group for their work. Zuodar works independently in painting, drawing, graphics and art publications.
